Knowledge-Understand-Do

KUD's (Knowledge-Understand-Do) is backwards lesson planning strategy used in Differentiated Instruction.  It's goal is to plan with the end in mind allowing educators to purposefully create and prioritize lessons that are relevant to the students they are teaching. Knowledge refers to people, places, dates, vocabulary, defintions, and facts a student will need to know in order to be successful; Understand refers to the big ideas, essential understandings, principals, and generalizations students need to grasp in response to the learning objective; and Do refers to the skills, outcomes, and behavorial objectives the student will be equipped with as a result of the lesson.
